G.rodola pyftpdlib up to 0.5.0 accept race condition

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in G.rodola pyftpdlib up to 0.5.0. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function accept. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

Race condition in the FTPHandler class in ftpserver.py in pyftpdlib before 0.5.1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon outage) by establishing and then immediately closing a TCP connection, leading to the accept function having an unexpected return value of None, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-3494.

The weakness was disclosed 10/19/2010 (Website). The advisory is available at bugs.python.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-5010 since 10/19/2010. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 0.3.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (62695). The entries 55131, 55130, 55128 and 55125 are pretty similar.
