Artica Pandora FMS up to 2.1.1 Default Configuration index.php loginhash_data improper authentication

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The summary by CVE is:

The default configuration of Pandora FMS 3.1 and earlier specifies an empty string for the loginhash_pwd field, which allows remote attackers to bypass authentication by sending a request to index.php with "admin" in the loginhash_user parameter, in conjunction with the md5 hash of "admin" in the loginhash_data parameter.

The weakness was disclosed 11/30/2010 by Juan Galiana Lara (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at packetstormsecurity.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-4279. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 50861 (Pandora FMS Console Authentication Bypass), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.

A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (50861) and Exploit-DB (35731). The entries 55611, 55610, 55609 and 55608 are pretty similar.
