MySQL up to 5.1.25 Stored numeric error

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in MySQL up to 5.1.25 (Database Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability (Stored). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-189. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

MySQL 5.1 before 5.1.51 and 5.5 before 5.5.6 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (mysqld server crash) by performing a user-variable assignment in a logical expression that is calculated and stored in a temporary table for GROUP BY, then causing the expression value to be used after the table is created, which causes the expression to be re-evaluated instead of accessing its value from the table.

The weakness was published 01/14/2011 as Bug 640819 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-3835 since 10/07/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 50806 (CentOS 5 : mysql (CESA-2010:0825)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19588 (MySQL Prior to Version 5.1.51 Multiple Denial Of Service Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 5.1.26 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (64843) and Tenable (50806). Similar entries are available at 56085, 56084, 56083 and 56082.
