A vulnerability has been found in Scadaengine BACnet OPC Client up to 1.0.23 (SCADA Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality in the library WTclient.dll of the file csv. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Stack-based buffer overflow in WTclient.dll in SCADA Engine BACnet OPC Client before 1.0.25 allows user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted .csv file, related to a status log message.
The weakness was released 02/15/2011 by Jeremy Brown with Brown (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-4740. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed in Python. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 1.0.24 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 10839.
