A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox (Web Browser). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function blocked-uri of the component Content Security Policy. The manipulation of the argument blocked-uri with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality. The Content Security Policy (CSP) functionality in Mozilla Firefox 4.x through 13.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.6, Thunderbird 5.0 through 13.0, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.6, and SeaMonkey before 2.11 does not properly restrict the strings placed into the blocked-uri parameter of a violation report, which allows remote web servers to capture OpenID credentials and OAuth 2.0 access tokens by triggering a violation.

The weakness was presented 07/17/2012 by Karthikeyan Bhargavan (moz_bug_r_a4) with Prosecco as MFSA 2012-53 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-1963 since 03/30/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a private exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59998 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2012:1088)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120366 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2012:1088)).

Upgrading to version 14 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at mozilla.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
