7t IGSS up to 9.00.00.11059 dc.exe path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in 7t IGSS up to 9.00.00.11059. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file dc.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in dc.exe 9.00.00.11059 and earlier in 7-Technologies Interactive Graphical SCADA System (IGSS) allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary programs via ..\ (dot dot backslash) sequences in opcodes (1) 0xa and (2) 0x17 to TCP port 12397.

The weakness was presented 04/05/2011 by Luigi Auriemma (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-1566. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

A public exploit has been developed by Luigi Auriemma and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 14 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119093 (7T IGSS Multiple Vulnerabilities).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11076.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (66597), Exploit-DB (17024), SecurityFocus (BID 46936†), OSVDB (72354†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-30807†). See VDB-57010, VDB-57009 and VDB-57007 for similar entries. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
