Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 does not enforce intended domain restrictions on content access, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information or conduct clickjacking attacks via a crafted web site, aka "Frame Tag Information Disclosure Vulnerability."

The issue has been introduced in 03/05/2008. The weakness was released 04/13/2011 as MS11-018 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-1244. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1134 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 53375 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100099 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS11-018)).

Applying the patch MS11-018 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com.
