CA Total Defense prior R12 Stored Procedure sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in CA Total Defense. It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component Stored Procedure. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability (Stored). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The software constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Unified Network Control (UNC) Server in CA Total Defense (TD) r12 before SE2 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via vectors involving the (1) UnAssignFunctionalRoles, (2) UnassignAdminRoles, (3) DeleteFilter, (4) NonAssignedUserList, (5) DeleteReportLayout, (6) DeleteReports, and (7) RegenerateReport stored procedures.

The weakness was released 04/18/2011 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-1653. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/02/2021). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is available at It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.

Upgrading to version R12 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11063.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (66725). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at 57133 and 57132.
