A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in InduSoft Web Studio. This issue affects an unknown code of the file ISSymbol.ocx of the component ActiveX Control. The manipulation of the argument bstrFileName
with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple buffer overflows in the ISSymbol ActiveX control in ISSymbol.ocx 61.6.0.0 and 301.1009.2904.0 in the ISSymbol virtual machine, as distributed in Advantech Studio 6.1 SP6 61.6.01.05, InduSoft Web Studio before 7.0+SP1, and InduSoft Thin Client 7.0, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long (1) InternationalOrder, (2) InternationalSeparator, or (3) LogFileName property value; or (4) a long bstrFileName argument to the OpenScreen method.
The weakness was released 05/04/2011 by Dmitriy Pletnev (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-0340 since 01/06/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
