A vulnerability has been found in Novell iPrint (Printing Software) and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block in the library nipplib.dll. The manipulation of the argument op-printer-list-all-jobs

Stack-based buffer overflow in nipplib.dll in Novell iPrint Client before 5.64 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted op-printer-list-all-jobs parameter in a printer-url.
The weakness was disclosed 06/09/2011 with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is available at download.novell.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-1707. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/08/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 54988 (Novell iPrint Client < 5.64 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119316 (Novell iPrint Client Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 5.42 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11206.
