A vulnerability was found in Adobe Shockwave Player up to 11.6.0.x (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as very critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function in the library IML32.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. IML32.dll in Adobe Shockwave Player before 11.6.0.626 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted tSAC chunk, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-2111 and CVE-2011-2116.

The weakness was disclosed 06/16/2011 by Rodrigo Rubira Branco with Qualys (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-2115. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/13/2021).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55142 (Shockwave Player < 11.6.0.626 (APSB11-17)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119333 (Adobe Shockwave Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB11-17)).

Upgrading to version 8.0.196 eliminates this vulnerability.
