The weakness was disclosed 07/17/2012 with Oracle as Patch Day July 2012 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-0563 since 01/11/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 76818 (Oracle Solaris Critical Patch Update : jul2012_SRU9_5), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Solaris Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120905 (Solaris 11 Support Repository Update (SRU) 9.5 Missing).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
