pysmb.py in system-config-printer 0.6.x and 0.7.x, as used in foomatic-gui and possibly other products, allows remote SMB servers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the (1) NetBIOS or (2) workgroup name, which are not properly handled when searching for network printers.
The weakness was disclosed 08/31/2011 by Vincent Danen as Bug 728348 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-2899 since 07/27/2011. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely.
