Mozilla Firefox up to 6.0 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Mozilla Firefox before 7.0 and SeaMonkey before 2.4 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via an unspecified WebGL test case that triggers a memory-allocation error and a resulting out-of-bounds write operation.

The weakness was presented 09/28/2011 by Ben Hawkes as Bug 682335 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-3003 since 08/01/2011. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/20/2021).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56323 (FreeBSD : Mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (1fade8a3-e9e8-11e0-9580-4061862b8c22)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119622 (Mozilla Firefox, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird Multiple Vulnerabilities (MFSA-2011-36 through MFSA-2011-45)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (56323). See 58781, 58780, 58777 and 58776 for similar entries.
