The weakness was disclosed 10/14/2011 by Erling Ellingsen with Facebook (Website). The advisory is shared at lists.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-3435 since 09/13/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1552 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56480 (Mac OS X 10.7.x < 10.7.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119638 (Apple Mac OS X Lion v10.7.2 and Security Update 2011-006 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2011-10-12-3)).
Upgrading to version 10.7.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
