The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2047 since 04/02/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 61536 (Shockwave Player <= 11.6.5.635 Multiple Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities (APSB12-17)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120409 (Adobe Shockwave Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-17)).

Upgrading to version 11.6.6.636 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at get.adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
