The weakness was disclosed 08/14/2012 by Honggang Ren (suto) with FortiGuard Labs as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared for download at adobe.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2047 since 04/02/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 61536 (Shockwave Player <= Multiple Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities (APSB12-17)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120409 (Adobe Shockwave Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-17)).

Upgrading to version eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at get.adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at SecurityTracker (ID 1027387), Vulnerability Center (SBV-35877) and Tenable (61536). The entries 5948, 5949, 5950 and 5951 are pretty similar.
