Heap-based buffer overflow in the process_tx_desc function in the e1000 emulation (hw/e1000.c) in qemu-kvm 0.12, and possibly other versions, allows guest OS users to cause a denial of service (QEMU crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted legacy mode packets.
The weakness was presented 01/27/2012 as Bug 772075 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-0029 since 12/07/2011. The attack needs to be done within the local network. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
