The weakness was released 08/22/2012 with Tenable Network Security as SB10026 as confirmed bulletin (Website) via mcafee.com. It is possible to read the advisory at kc.mcafee.com. The public release was coordinated with McAfee. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4595 since 08/22/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59110 (McAfee WebShield UI Authentication Bypass), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.

Applying the patch MEG 7.0.1 Patch 2 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at mcafee.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
