The ima_lsm_rule_init function in security/integrity/ima/ima_policy.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.37, when the Linux Security Modules (LSM) framework is disabled, allows local users to bypass Integrity Measurement Architecture (IMA) rules in opportunistic circumstances by leveraging an administrator s addition of an IMA rule for LSM.

The issue has been introduced in 10/20/2010. The weakness was published 06/21/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-0006. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 610 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 51949 (Fedora 14 : kernel-2.6.35.11-83.fc14 (2011-1138)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 155444 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (ELSA-2011-2015)).
