Integer overflow in the jpeg_data_load_data function in jpeg-data.c in libjpeg in exif 0.6.20 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (buffer over-read and application crash) or obtain potentially sensitive information via a crafted JPEG file.

The weakness was presented 07/13/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mandriva.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-2845. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 60132 (Fedora 17 : exif-0.6.21-1.fc17 (2012-10854)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
