FreeBSD 6.4 malloc libc/stdlib/malloc.c ipalloc numeric error

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.
5.3$0-$5k0.00

A vulnerability was found in FreeBSD 6.4 (Operating System). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function ipalloc in the library libc/stdlib/malloc.c of the component malloc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-189. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

The ipalloc function in libc/stdlib/malloc.c in jemalloc in libc for FreeBSD 6.4 and NetBSD does not properly allocate memory, which makes it easier for context-dependent attackers to perform memory-related attacks such as buffer overflows via a large size value, related to "integer rounding and overflow" errors.

The weakness was released 07/25/2012 (Website). The advisory is available at svnweb.freebsd.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-6754 since 07/25/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/19/2019).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

Entry connected to this vulnerability is available at 61405.
