The weakness was disclosed 09/20/2012 by Jesse Ruderman with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3716 since 06/19/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62214 (Mac OS X 10.7.x < 10.7.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities (BEAST)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120531 (Apple Mountain Lion v10.8.2, OS X Lion v10.7.5 and Security Update 2012-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-2)).
Upgrading to version 10.7.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
