Multiple cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerabilities in the web interface in Cerberus FTP Server before 5.0.5.0 allow remote attackers to hijack the authentication of administrators for requests that (1) add a user account or (2) reconfigure the state of the FTP service, as demonstrated by a request to usermanager/users/modify.
The weakness was disclosed 10/04/2012 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-2999 since 05/30/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63559 (Cerberus FTP Server < 5.0.5.0 Cross-Site Request Forgery), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FTP.
Upgrading to version 2.42 eliminates this vulnerability.
