Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in the View Log Files component in Axigen Free Mail Server allow remote attackers to read or delete arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in (1) the fileName parameter in a download action to source/loggin/page_log_dwn_file.hsp, or the fileName parameter in (2) an edit action or (3) a delete action to the default URI.
The weakness was shared 10/31/2012 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-4940 since 09/17/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
