The weakness was shared 11/11/2012 by Heine Deelstra (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at drupalcode.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-4553 since 08/21/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62678 (Drupal 7.x < 7.16 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12797 (Drupal Core Arbitrary PHP Code Execution and Information Disclosure Vulnerabilities (SA-CORE-2012-003)).

Upgrading to version 7.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 16457.
