Multiple integer overflows in libssh before 0.5.3 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop or crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors, which triggers a buffer overflow, infinite loop, or possibly some other unspecified vulnerabilities.
The weakness was disclosed 11/30/2012 by Florian Weimer with Red Hat Product Security Team as Bug 871620 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4562 since 08/21/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 64196 (SuSE 11.2 Security Update : libssh2 (SAT Patch Number 7073)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version 0.4.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
