A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Cerberus FTP Server up to 2.41 (File Transfer Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Administrative Web Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. Impacted is integrity. An attacker might be able to inject arbitrary html and script code into the web site. This would alter the appearance and would make it possible to initiate further attacks against site visitors.

The weakness was released 12/31/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared at cerberusftp.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-6339 since 12/13/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63560 (Cerberus FTP Server < 5.0.6.0 Multiple XSS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FTP. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 27364 (Cerberus FTP Server Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability).

Upgrading to version 2.42 eliminates this vulnerability.
