IBM SPSS Modeler up to 14.2.0.0 memory allocation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in IBM SPSS Modeler up to 14.2.0.0. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:

IBM SPSS Modeler 14.0, 14.1, 14.2 through FP3, and 15.0 before FP2 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files, and possibly send HTTP requests to intranet servers or cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption), via an XML external entity declaration in conjunction with an entity reference.

The weakness was released 01/01/2013 by Timur Yunusov (Alex) with Positive Research Center (Website). The advisory is available at www-01.ibm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-5769 since 11/02/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (80316).
