A vulnerability was found in 3s-software CODESYS Runtime System 2.3.9.8 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Listener. Directory traversal vulnerability in the Runtime Toolkit in CODESYS Runtime System 2.3.x and 2.4.x allows remote attackers to read, overwrite, or create arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in a request to the TCP listener service.
The weakness was presented 01/21/2013 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-6069 since 12/05/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 42396 (CoDeSys Remote Unauthenticated Access to Command-Line).
