A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in BigAntSoft BigAnt IM Message Server (unknown version). This affects an unknown code block of the component Message Server. SQL injection vulnerability in BigAntSoft BigAnt IM Message Server allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via an SHU (aka search user) request.
The weakness was released 02/24/2013 by Hamburgers Maccoy as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-6273 since 12/06/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121026 (BigAnt IM Message Server and Components Multiple Vulnerabilities).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13376.
