This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-3053 since 08/09/2011. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58438 (FreeBSD : chromium -- multiple vulnerabilities (330106da-7406-11e1-a1d7-00262d5ed8ee)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120502 (Apple iTunes Prior to 10.7 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-09-12-1)).
Upgrading to version 6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Google Android as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
