A vulnerability was found in Exim Internet Mailer up to 3.35 (Mail Server Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function sender_verify
of the file exim.conf of the component Source Address Verifier. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. Stack-based buffer overflow in Exim 3.35, and other versions before 4, when the sender_verify option is true, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code during sender verification.
The bug was discovered 05/06/2004. The weakness was released 05/06/2004 by Georgi Guninski (Website). The advisory is available at guninski.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-0399 since 04/13/2004. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
