of the file gif.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The ReadGIFImage function in coders/gif.c in ImageMagick before 6.7.8-8 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted comment in a GIF image.
The weakness was disclosed 09/10/2013 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-4298 since 06/12/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
