A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Binarymoon TimThumb 1.99. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file timthumb.php of the component Cache. The manipulation of the argument src

properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
TimThumb (timthumb.php) before 2.0 does not validate the entire source with the domain white list, which allows remote attackers to upload and execute arbitrary code via a URL containing a white-listed domain in the src parameter, then accessing it via a direct request to the file in the cache directory, as exploited in the wild in August 2011.
The weakness was published 10/26/2013 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at markmaunder.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-4106 since 10/18/2011. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 50 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:timthumb.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56735 (TimThumb Cache Directory 'src' Parameter Arbitrary PHP File Upload), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12998 (WordPress Timthumb Plugin Cache Directory Arbitrary File Upload Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 1.99 eliminates this vulnerability.
