SQL injection vulnerability in the password reset page in Open Web Analytics (OWA) before 1.5.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the owa_email_address parameter in a base.passwordResetRequest action to index.php.
The weakness was presented 01/15/2014 with Dell SecureWorks (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-1206 since 01/07/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by Dana James Traversie and been published 2 months after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74188 (Open Web Analytics owa_email_address SQL Injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12830 (Open Web Analytics SQL Injection Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 1.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
