D-Link DES-3810-28 -/R2.20.b017 OSPF multiple resources with duplicate identifier

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in D-Link DES-3810-28 -/R2.20.b017 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component OSPF Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use of multiple resources with duplicate identifier vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-694. The product uses multiple resources that can have the same identifier, in a context in which unique identifiers are required. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The OSPF implementation on the D-Link DES-3810-28 switch with firmware R2.20.B017 does not consider the possibility of duplicate Link State ID values in Link State Advertisement (LSA) packets before performing operations on the LSA database, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (routing disruption) or obtain sensitive packet information via a crafted LSA packet, a related issue to CVE-2013-0149.

The weakness was presented 01/23/2014 as not defined advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-7308 since 01/23/2014. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/18/2024).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (95398). See VDB-66171, VDB-65931 and VDB-64659 for similar entries. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
