Smartbear SoapUI up to 4.6.3 SOAP code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Smartbear SoapUI up to 4.6.3. It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown functionality of the component SOAP. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The WSDL/WADL import functionality in SoapUI before 4.6.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Java code via a crafted request parameter in a WSDL file.

The weakness was released 01/24/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-1202 since 01/07/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by Barak Tawily and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 10 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

Upgrading to version 4.6.1 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Exploit-DB (30908).
