CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in QEMU 0.15.0/0.15.1/1.0 (Virtualization Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ccid_card_vscard_handle_message. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Buffer overflow in the ccid_card_vscard_handle_message function in hw/ccid-card-passthru.c in QEMU before 0.15.2 and 1.x before 1.0-rc4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted VSC_ATR message.

The weakness was released 02/26/2014 by Petr Matousek as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.qemu.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-4111 since 10/18/2011. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack needs to approached within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68398 (Oracle Linux 6 : qemu-kvm (ELSA-2011-1777)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 156131 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for qemu-kvm (ELSA-2011-1777)).

Upgrading to version 1.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.qemu.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (71664), Tenable (68398), SecurityFocus (BID 50933†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-34072†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
