A vulnerability was found in Zingiri Forums (Forum Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function zing_forum_output
of the file forum.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the zing_forum_output function in forum.php in the Zingiri Forum (aka Forums) plugin before 1.4.4 for WordPress allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the url parameter to index.php.
The weakness was presented 04/04/2014 by Charlie Eriksen (Website). The advisory is available at wordpress.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-4920 since 09/14/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
