A vulnerability was found in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.4/11.1.1.6/11.1.2.0 (Middleware). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file reports/rwservlet of the component Reports Developer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
Unspecified vulnerability in the Oracle Reports Developer component in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.4, 11.1.1.6, and 11.1.2.0 allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality and integrity via unknown vectors related to Report Server Component. NOTE: the previous information is from the October 2012 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from the original researcher that the URLPARAMETER functionality allows remote attackers to read and upload arbitrary files to reports/rwservlet, and that this issue occurs in earlier versions. NOTE: this can be leveraged with CVE-2012-3153 to execute arbitrary code by uploading a .jsp file.
The weakness was shared 10/16/2012 with Oracle as cpuoct2012-1515893 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3152 since 06/06/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed by Mekanismen and been published 2 years after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73119 (Oracle Reports Servlet Remote File Access), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12836 (Oracle Forms and Reports Two Vulnerabilities). This issue was added on 11/03/2021 to the CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog with a due date of 05/03/2022:
