FileUploadServlet in the Administration service in Novell GroupWise 2014 before SP1 allows remote attackers to read or write to arbitrary files via the poLibMaintenanceFileSave parameter, aka ZDI-CAN-2287.

The weakness was disclosed 08/26/2014 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) as Document ID 7015566 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is available at novell.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-0600 since 12/28/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 130 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 77474 (Novell GroupWise 'FileUploadServlet' Arbitrary File Access Vulnerability), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.

Upgrading to version 2014 SP1 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 16784.
