The weakness was disclosed 10/14/2014 by Ian Beer with Google Project Zero as APSB14-22 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-0558 since 12/20/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79404 (GLSA-201411-06 : Adobe Flash Player: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100213 (Microsoft Windows Update for Vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer (KB3001237)).

Upgrading to version 15.0.0.189 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 16885.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (97015) and Tenable (79404). The entries 67832, 67831 and 68286 are pretty similar.
