The weakness was presented 10/28/2014 as c04491186 / HPSBUX03159 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at h20564.www2.hp.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-7877 since 10/06/2014. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78717 (HP-UX PHNE_43814 : s700_800 11.31 cumulative ARPA Transport patch), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family HP-UX Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185092 (HP-UX kernel Local Denial of Service Vulnerability (HPSBUX03159)).

Applying the patch PHNE_43814 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at h20566.www2.hp.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
