A vulnerability has been found in VideoLAN VLC Media Player 2.0.3 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ReadAV in the library libpng_plugin. libpng_plugin in VideoLAN VLC media player 2.0.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted PNG file.

The weakness was released 10/11/2012 by Jean Pascal Pereira as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at cve.mitre.org. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-5470 since 10/24/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely.
