A vulnerability was found in RSA Adaptive Authentication up to 7.1 P3. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Challenge SOAP Call Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was released 12/02/2014 with EMC as ESA-2014-160 as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-4631 since 06/24/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:
When requesting device binding in a Challenge SOAP call, permanent device binding takes place regardless of the success or failure of the authentication. This could potentially lead to an authentication bypass scenario. In RSA Adaptive Authentication Integration Adapters, a device binding request is sent in the Challenge SOAP call for Out-of-Band Phone (Authentify) functionality only.
Upgrading to version 7.1 P4 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (99086).
