These issues were disclosed as part of the IBM SDK Java Technology Edition updates in July 2014.This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-3058 since 04/29/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
It is declared as highly functional.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
After applying the interim fix for V2.1 or V2.5 Fix Pack 4, cross-site request forgery protection must be enabled by an appliance administrator from the web administrative console. This can also be done using REST administration calls, as documented in IBM Knowledge Center. From the web administrative console, select Appliance > Security, and enable cross-site request forgery protection.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (93532). The entries 68420, 68423, 68421 and 68419 are pretty similar.
