CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This issue affects an unknown code block of the component HZ-GB-2312 Charset Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The HZ-GB-2312 character-set implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 17.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.11, Thunderbird before 17.0, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.11, and SeaMonkey before 2.14 does not properly handle a ~ (tilde) character in proximity to a chunk delimiter, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via a crafted document.

The weakness was disclosed 11/20/2012 by Masato Kinugawa (moz_bug_r_a4) (Website). The advisory is shared at ubuntu.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-4207 since 08/08/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63005 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2012:1482)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120702 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2012:1482)).

Upgrading to version 17.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at mozilla.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
