A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in KDirStat 2.7.3. Affected is an unknown code block of the file kcleanup.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
kcleanup.cpp in KDirStat 2.7.3 does not properly quote strings when deleting a directory, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a (single quote) character in the directory name, a different vulnerability than CVE-2014-2527.
The weakness was published 08/26/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bitbucket.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-2528 since 03/17/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
