Cisco Integrated Management Controller up to 2.2.1 SSH Module input validation
CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.
A vulnerability was found in Cisco Integrated Management Controller up to 2.2.1 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code of the component SSH Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The SSH module in the Integrated Management Controller (IMC) before 2.3.1 in Cisco Unified Computing System on E-Series blade servers allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (IMC hang) via a crafted SSH packet, aka Bug ID CSCuo69206.
The weakness was shared 09/10/2014 with Cisco as 35588 as confirmed vulnerability alert (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at tools.cisco.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-3348 since 05/07/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 77759 (Cisco UCS Integrated Management Controller < 2.3(1) DoS (cisco-sa-20140908-ucse)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CISCO.
Upgrading to version 2.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (95782), Vulnerability Center (SBV-46098) and Tenable (77759).
