CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 8/9 (Web Browser). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part in the library mshtml.dll. The manipulation with the input value <table></for xmlns="1">… leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability.

The issue has been introduced in 03/05/2008. The weakness was shared 12/20/2012 by Jean Pascal Pereira with 0xffe4 as Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.x <= Remote Stack Overflow Vulnerability as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK. OSVDB critizises: "The original report appears to conclude that the described crash is 'exploitable' solely based on use of the !exploitable Crash Analyzer, part of the MSEC Debugger Extensions (http://msecdbg.codeplex.com/). Use of a crash analyzer without additional research in determining the existance of a vulnerability and ist exploitability is prone to false positives, sometimes flagging a crash as 'exploitable' that is not so."

A public exploit has been developed by Jean Pascal Pereira and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1751 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at X-Force (80750). packetstormsecurity.org is providing further details.
